Hug the World

Dear Optimists,

Sometimes people just need a hug. After a long, trying day of work, even the best of us can lose our optimism. Do you think Nadia and I just walk around smiling all the time? And there’s nothing like a good, caring hug from someone you know cares. You know what I’m talking about!

So get out there and start hugging people! Just stay away from the homeless, they don’t love being hugged. And sometimes they can be stinky.

Love,

Den

How are you?

Dear Optimists,

Hello all! How are you? You know how people always ask that and don’t actually want to know? You know what I’m talking about. They ask, and if you start telling them how you are, they look at you like you’re crazy.

So for real, we want to know.

How are you? Catch us up on your lives. Tell us something good that happened to you lately. Share a joke. Whatever you want!

Love,

Den

Wiiiiillllld Horseeeees…

Dear Optimists,

I promised you more horsie stories, so here we go. Think of an animal you see in your front yard everyday. For me it’s squirrels. I see them frolicking, running around, gathering food, chasing each other and doing other silly squirrel things.

Now imagine instead that they’re horses. That’s right, I said horses.

I was in Outer Banks, North Carolina, as some of you may know from my previous post, for my sister’s wedding. And everywhere we went there were wild horses just running around, chilling, and eating leaves from trees. It was so cool! The best was when the girlfriend and I went for a walk with the camera in an attempt to photograph some. We found a group of four, and do you know what they did? They posed for us. No lie. They ignored us until I whipped out the camera, at which point they would stop and look at the camera, practically smiling! If I moved to shoot from a different angle, they turned to face me again! As I was about to shoot they would nuzzle each other, or stop moving (like a human would) and sometimes they even lifted a foot to pose!

So much fun.

The only downside? With horses everywhere, there was also poop everywhere.

And lots of it.

A small price to pay for having wild horses, I guess.

Love,

Den

Rainbows and Horsies

Dear Optimists,

There are some things in life that are too cool for words.

I just got back from a trip to Outer Banks, North Carolina, where I saw my sister get married (a beautiful event in itself), my first wild horses, and my first real, full, rainbow. And I don’t mean a rainbow going from one cloud to the ground. I mean the whole darn thing from horizon to horizon. And not just one, but two, one right above the other.

The world is such a beautiful place.

Love,
Den

P.S. More on the wild horses later in the week 🙂

Love and Texting

Dear Optimists,

I was on the train today and seemed to be surrounded by many college students heading to the university. I noticed a trend and started really paying attention to my surroundings and then realized a common occurrence:

The person gets a text, they read it, and smile this HUGE smile that covers half of their face. This is not a smile that appears from a joke or funny comment; I’m talking about a glowing smile that says they’re in love.

And now that I’ve started looking, I’ve noticed it more and more often. It’s nice believing that the whole world is slowly falling in love, even if it is via text. And even if these are just crushes, who cares? A crush can lead to love…

Smiles,

Den

Photographer

Dear Optimists,

When Den talked about how much he loves vintage photos I couldn’t help but feeling a bit sad that I won’t be able to be the creator of such photographs. I wish I had a time machine so I could go back to those times and shoot some photographs.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a time machine, but it doesn’t stop me doing what I love the most. Photographing.
I haven’t got much time these days to actually shoot like I did when I worked professionally, but when I do it it just feels right.

There’s this certain connection between us – me and the camera. We don’t always speak the same language (the new camera I ordered last year is from a foreign country and obviously, it hasn’t learned English nor Danish just yet), but we have this common understanding when creating.

It gives me peace, yet it creates excitement inside of me that I can’t shake off. Not that I want to.

When something makes you this happy, learn from my mistake and do it more often. Get involved, find time, do what you love.

Always.

Love,
Nadia.

Love is the answer

Dear Optimists,

The key to an optimistic lifestyle must be love, wouldn’t you say so? Most importantly love for yourself, but also love for others. And remembering that there’s someone out there that loves you more than life itself, even when you are still to meet him or her.

I’m happy to say that I’ve met him. 10 years ago, to be exact. Back then I wouldn’t realise, even though I knew deep within my heart that this was right. But he waited. Eight years later and we’re together for the long term.

He’s the one that makes me laugh when I fucked up, he’s the one that listens even when it’s frivolous blabber, he’s the one that accidently pushes me out of the bed at night, he’s the one that looks at me with morning breath, undid hair and no make-up on and still see a princess, he’s the one to carry me when I’m too frail to walk alone, he’s the one to nickname me ‘forever’, because that is what this is.

I love him so dearly, I hope he knows.

Love,
Nadia.

Birthdays

Dear Optimists,

There are just something about birthdays, aren’t there? When it comes to birthdays I’m never going to grow up. Even my gifts proves this fact; last year I was dragged into a toy store where my friend bought me a nerf gun. Okay, I wasn’t dragged. He was.

I tend to get more excited about other people’s birthdays than my own, really (everybody that knows me reading along, shush!). It was my bf’s birthday Monday and I got him way too many presents. With my excitement and eagerness about his birthday (more than he’s ever been himself), I ended up giving him all of the gifts on his dinner plate in front of our family when we celebrated on Saturday, two days before his real birthday. He was overwhelmed by all the love and presents he received from all of us. It made me warm inside. Don’t you just love giving gifts?

Happy birthday, baby.
Your’s truly,
Nadia.

P.S. The drawing is misleading. He received seven gifts, not six.

Thank you!
