Pampering

Dear Optimists,

I mentioned the other day one of the greatest advantages of moving away from home. But there’s something I have to admit.

No matter how much I enjoy eating cake in the morning (and around the clock), it’s always nice to come home and be pampered.

That morning I knew I had to get up early to go to The Blue Lagoon. As any other kid (you’re always a kid when you’re home, right?) I depended on my Mum to get me up in time to pack my things and get ready.

I got up 15 minutes before we had to go. Because this happened:

Free stuff <3

Dear Optimists,

I’m a sucker for free stuff. Pens, stickers, magazines – you name it, I want it.
Luckily, when I’m in Iceland visiting Mum I can buy tax-free*, which equals free money!

DVDs are rather cheap here, which means I always return home with a shitload of films. A penny saved is a penny gained, right? – Equals free money!!
At the shop this… girl… got quite confused when I asked for tax-free – must be her first time. After she handed me the tax-free papers, I just stood there. My DVDs were still on the counter.

“Is that all?,” I asked her, confused.
“Well. Yeah. You can have this?” She said and gave me a piece of paper.

FOR FREE!

Love,
Nadia.

*Tax-Free Shopping allows shoppers to reclaim the VAT(Value-Added Tax)/GST (Goods and Services Tax) they have paid on their shopping in foreign countries. Thank you for clarifying, Wiki.

Karma

Dear Optimists,

She’s really not that big, Mum’s new black Labrador. But when an average-sized dog thinks she’s still a tiny puppy when she jumps on top of you to cuddle, she’s humungous! My bum still hurts from being floored by the beast.

Her name is Kamma. Not really, though, because the Icelandic family who had her before named her Karma. Thing is, Icelandic people have big problems pronouncing “karma” and it took her a while to recognise Mum saying her name (although she had no trouble recognising the sound of food!)

Even though they have such pronunciation problems, nobody can deny that in this case, Karma is a bitch.

Love,
Nadia.
