Guest Post Wednesday: A Thank-You email

Dear Optimists,

You might remember Carolynn the Dyer, the lovely lady who won our 100th post contest?

She won a hand-painted one-of-a-kind watercolour by me, Nadia. Not too long ago we received a Thank-You email from her, which reminded us why we do this (just like every single comment from you guys reminds us!):

Dear Nadia and Den,

I got the drawing in the mail today. What timing! You see, I’m in charge of a major activity at church tonight, and just this morning I realized that about half the things I thought were completed hadn’t even been started yet.

It’s been Stress Central Station over here ever since.

Anyway, I was running around like a squirrel on entirely too much caffeine, going to dash off to the store for (yet another) something I forgot, when I heard the mailman at the door–with a package. Package! Who doesn’t love that? Better yet, it had your picture in it, all smiling and lovely. It got me to stop, breathe, and just… smile.

Thank you, you lovely people!

Love,
Carolynn

It’s prettier in real life. We’re less orange-y.

Thank you, Carolynn.
Nadia & Den.

Share your appreciation

Dear Optimists,

Today I’m going to tell  you about someone that I appreciate very much. She’s always there for me, ready to listen. She’s been there for the past 9-10 years, but I don’t really feel that I show her enough appreciation. I’m going to change that.

Thursday was the day for my thesis hand-in at the University. Thursday was also the day the train staff chose to go on strike.

So I rang Malou:

She went to work to explain the situation and came to get me:

Then we went on the long drive to my University. At the University I got lost and ran down the halls, confused and stressed out. Malou pointed out a big sign which read, “thesis hand-in”.

She’s been listening to me complain for the past three weeks. Which is why she is frowning and looks tired.

But she’s there. She’s always there.

Thank you, Malou. Thank you for always saving my arse, for being ready with a comforting hug (and cake) and just because you are you.

Today, go tell someone how much you appreciate them. Isn’t that what the Holidays are for?

Love,
Nadia.

Appreciation

Dear Optimists,

I think it’s important that, every once in a while, you take stock in life and think about the people who are really there for you. But that’s not enough! When you realize how important someone is in your life, you should TELL them.

Yesterday I was with one of my oldest friends, and I let her know how great I think she is and made sure she was aware that I would do anything for her.

She smiled the biggest I’ve ever seen.

So even though Nadia might not love this idea (she LOVES reading comments) don’t comment on this today. Instead, write a short email or head over to someone’s facebook wall and tell them what they mean to you.

Love,

Den

P.S. Nadia, thank you for being such a great Internet friend and inspiration. I look forward to the holiday that makes us real-life friends 🙂

Thank you!
