Trick your mind into happiness

Dear Optimists,

On bad days it’s hard to find the face that suits your mood.

Some walk around showing their exact emotions, tainting others with their negativity. Others put on a fake smile and no one will ever know what exactly they feel.

Obviously, it’s important not to hide your true feelings – if you’re feeling blue; you’re “allowed” to display it.

At the same time, it’s tough to be around really negative people that can’t see anything optimistic about a dandelion growing on the side of the motorway (as a certain someone).

Studies have shown that not only will a smile affect others around you; it’ll also affect your own mood! Simply put: you trick the brain into believing you’re actually happy!

So, on a gloomy day, wouldn’t it be better to just smile and laugh about how easy it is to bluff your own brain?

Give us a smile in the comments!

PS. Big thanks to everybody who gave me great advice when I was feeling low.

  1. Thanks for the smile 🙂 I just got results back from my experiments and the one tiny itty bitty little part that failed would have probably had the best results had it worked. Seriously, these results (on the whole) have been amazingly successful, its just the bit that looked most promising didn’t even generate data 😦 Good thing this stopped me from getting too grumpy!

    1. Aww, I hate when I accidently focus on the bad 2% instead of the awesome 98%. Good thing you stopped and looked on the brighter things in life 🙂

  2. That is always the best way for when you feel down.
Sometimes when you smile people smile back at you, and that makes me happy also =] It’s always the littlest things that gets a person going.

  3. In all honesty, it’s hard for me NOT to smile when I read your posts. I mean, I would actually have to put in a strong effort to ensure that I wouldn’t smile…and I would fail miserably in the end anyway. 😀

    You’re awesome, Nadia.

  4. as I used to say, put yourself in the mode and the mood follows… but I didn’t have cute little drawings to illustrate and make it contagious, like yours… thanks for the brightening…

  5. Loved the illustration of the different faces on the shelf. I always paste on a smile no matter how bad I feel, but that has its downsides too as everyone assumes you are ok when you are not.

However this did make me smile a genuine smile so I am sending you one too! 🙂
